A telephone order merchant account is basically the same as an
Internet merchant account - risks are higher for potential fraud than a
brick and mortar merchant account. The merchant is unable to verify the
cardholder's identity, opening the door for more
chargeback
reasons.
You will need a merchant account of course, along with an electronic payment gateway (Quantum, Authorize.net, etc) that offers a virtual terminal. The virtual terminal usually comes at no extra cost to the merchant. With the virtual terminal, the merchant is able to process a credit card transaction via the Internet on the electronic payment gateway's secure website.
Most virtual terminals are similar - the merchant is able to complete transactions, refund a customer, settle batches, etc. The Quantum Gateway is one of the very few electronic payment gateways that merchants can access via a WAP-enabled phone, allowing the merchant to complete transactions almost anywhere. The Quantum Gateway does not charge anything extra for this valuable option.
The rates for a MOTO merchant account is the same as an Internet merchant account.
